THE Ministry of Education Ministry will not tolerate the issue of a male teacher who made a joke about rape, said Education Minister Radzi Jidin, adding that the matter is being taken very seriously.

“We cannot tolerate this. This has already become a police matter.

“In the ministry, we are currently carrying out a thorough investigation,” he said at a press conference at the Federal Territories Education Department today.

Radzi said that if the police decide to take it further, then the ministry will take the necessary action.

Over the weekend, student Ain Husniza wrote on social media that her physical education teacher at a school in Kuala Selangor had made jokes about rape, including telling boys in class that if they were to commit rape, they should target victims aged above 18.

Following the post, she said she received an audio message from a male classmate who was unhappy about her post and had threatened her.

Yesterday, Saiful Nizam Abdul Wahab – the father of the 17-year-old student – said he would meet with the investigating officer to discuss the case.

He said that so far, he has not received any information of action against the teacher the student who threatened his daughter.

“Now they are spreading rumours that Ain is a problem student, suffering from trauma and internal issues. That is a lie, Ain is an excellent student,” said Saiful.

He said several of Ain’s supporters, who contacted him through Facebook, stated that they had sent a formal complaint to the Ministry of Education and other ministries.

He said he fully supported his daughter’s actions in raising public awareness about the incident.

Saiful said his daughter did not intended to portray the teacher as an enemy, but to improve the system so that the same thing would not happen to others. – April 28, 2021.
