4 new educational institution clusters among 11 detected

THE Health Ministry today reported 11 new Covid-19 clusters, of which four were linked to education facilities.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said apart from the educational institution clusters, there were also three clusters linked to workplaces, three from community transmission and one involving a high risk group.

Three of the four educational institution clusters reported today were in Selangor.

The Jalan Sejati clucter, which was found at an institute in Batu Caves, saw 42 infections with cases detected in the Sepang and Gombak districts.

The two other clusters – Persiaran Setia Murni in Petaling, Kuala Selangor and Klang as well as Jalan Puchong in Sepang and Petaling – were detected at schools.

The Persiaran Setia Murni cluster registered 14 cases and the Jalan Puchong cluster, 21.

The fourth educational institution cluster was Cangkat Minden in Penang, which registered 14 cases.

The three workplace clusters were Jalan Padang Tembak in Kelantan, which reported 37 cases; Teknologi Ayer Keroh in Malacca with 21 cases; and Jalan Kempas Muar in Johor, which saw 66 infections.

All three clusters were linked to factories.

In Kanowit, Sabah, a funeral led to 31 infections in the Sungai Tuah cluster.

The two other community transmission clusters reported were Akar Peluru in Kedah (16 cases) and Bandar Baru Sentul (12 cases) in Kuala Lumpur. Both were linked to symptomatic index cases.

Completing the list of new clusters today was Jalan Bukit Emas in Negeri Sembilan. The cluster of 19 cases was detected at an old folks’ home.

Noor Hisham also declared that two clusters are now inactive, bringing the number of active clusters in the country to 367. – April 27, 2021.
