MORE than half of the eight Covid-19 clusters reported today were linked to the education sector.
Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four of the five education clusters reported today were discovered at public schools and institutions.
Two of these clusters were detected in Sarawak.
He said the Jalan Roban Lama cluster in Saratok and Kabong saw 48 cases while Jalan Selirik, involving staff and pupils of a school in Kapit, registered 23 cases.
Over in Penang, he said nine cases were reported in the Jalan Sg Daun cluster, which was discovered at a school in Nibong Tebal.
Another eight cases were reported in the Persiaran Sri Saujana cluster in Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.
Meanwhile, the Mempaga Satu education cluster reported 44 cases. The cluster, detected at an institute in Bentong, Pahang has also contributed to cases in the Maran district as well as across state lines in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Apart from that, health authorities also reported two community transmission clusters, namely Gong Dermin in Kelantan (51 cases) and Sri Desa in Pahang (10).
The Jalan Bukit Bintang cluster of seven cases involving restaurant workers in Kuala Lumpur was the sole workplace cluster reported today.
Six clusters have also ended. With this, the number of active clusters in the country now stands at 354. β April 23, 2021.
