Selangor tops Covid-19 tally

Malaysia logged 2,847 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the national caseload to 387,535. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, April 23, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 2,847 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with Selangor accounting for the bulk of daily infections.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases bring the country’s caseload to 387,535.

Selangor reported 748 cases, followed by Sarawak and Kelantan with 717 and 476 cases respectively.

Active cases continued on an uptrend, rising to 22,512 from yesterday’s 22,014.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 2,341 people had recovered from the coronavirus, taking the cumulative total of recoveries to 363,608. 

The country also reported eight fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,415. 

Meanwhile, 260 patients are currently being treated at intensive care units at hospitals, with 125 on respiratory support. – April 23, 2021.
