SARAWAK will receive its requested vaccine supply in order to meet its August target for complete immunisation of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah said today.

According to Uggah, who chairs the state disaster management committee, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin made the promise during their meeting in Putrajaya yesterday.

Khairy is the minister in charge of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme.

Two million Sarawakians above the age of 18 and another 200,000 foreign nationals residing in the state are eligible to receive the vaccination.

After receiving Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and his deputy Aaron Dagang at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia this afternoon, Uggah said Khairy’s assistance will greatly increase the pace of the programme.

“The federal government has recognised and appreciated the state’s immunisation programme. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Health and other agencies have indicated they are prepared to help us meet the deadline.

“So, I am very optimistic our programme will be on schedule,” Uggah said.

While in Putrajaya, Uggah and his delegation were also briefed by the Ministry of Health’s MySejahtera team on the progress of the registration in the state.

He said the team is prepared to key in manual registrations, taken in rural areas where internet access is poor or non-existent, into the system. In such cases, people have to travel to their district offices to register. – April 13, 2021.
