EIGHT new Covid-19 clusters were reported today, one of which involved a longhouse community in Sarawak.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was the Abak Bon cluster of 34 cases in Subis and Miri. The index case was a pre-surgery Covid-19 screening patient.

The cluster, which is classified as a community transmission, was named after a longhouse in Miri, where most of the Covid-19 positive patients lived.

Apart from Abak Bon, health authorities also detected two other community transmission clusters, namely Nangka Kelangas and Meruntum.

The Meruntum cluster of eight infections, which was detected in Putatan and Penampang, Sabah stemmed from a social event.

Nangka Kelangas in Julau, Sarawak, on the other hand, was traced to a symptomatic index patient. The cluster has reported 37 cases so far.

The remaining five clusters were linked to workplaces.

Selangor and Sarawak reported two workplace clusters each while Kelantan reported one.

The clusters were detected at factories, education institutes and a public administration building.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced the end of the Melor, Jalan i-Park Tiga, Industri Waja, Bukit Putra, Kampung Sungai Maong, Jalan Kabel Gemilang, Jalan Sungai Baong and Jalan Industri Tiga clusters.

With this, the number of active clusters in the country now stands at 343. – April 11, 2021.
