MALAYSIA reported 1,139 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with Sarawak topping the daily tally.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases raise the national caseload to 354,468.
Sarawak reported 332 cases, followed by Selangor and Johor with 294 and 102 cases respectively.
Putrajaya and Perlis were the only two states to report zero infections.
The growing number of cases in Sarawak yesterday led the state disaster management committee to order village and community chiefs to report all social gatherings planned in their neighbourhoods, after recent cases were found to have stemmed from events like weddings and funerals.
Of today’s fresh cases, Noor Hisham said only 13 were imported while the remaining were local transmissions.
On recoveries, he said 1,199 people have been discharged, leaving current active cases at 14,097.
Of active cases, 194 patients are currently warded in intensive care units, 86 of whom require respiratory support.
