THE Undi18 youth movement has launched a fundraiser to financially support the legal action their activists are facing from the government.

The #ManaUndiKami campaign includes a charity sale of a limited merchandise run of T-shirts sold at RM40 each.

Orders can be made via bit.ly/bajumuk.

“We are hoping to raise about RM10,000 to cover the legal fees as well as the logistics expenses,” said Undi18 co-founder Nur Qyira Yusri.

“Currently, our lawyers New Sin Yew of AmerBON, Advocates and Lim Wei Jiet are helping us pro bono.”

Undi18 held a press conference today at Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) after filing a lawsuit against the government to force it to introduce the act to lower the voting age to 18 and implement automatic voter registration by July, as originally planned.

Co-founder of Undi18, Tharmai Pillai said that the fight is not just about petty political scandals.

“It is about minimum wage, about owning a reasonably priced house, about development policies, about being able to live with dignity.

“Young Malaysians have a right to choose leaders that represent their vision for a better Malaysia. Let them vote,” he said.

About 300 youths gathered outside Parliament on Saturday, where they held a symbolic 18 minutes of silence to protest the delay.

The two measures are popularly known by the Malay phrase Undi 18 (Vote 18).

While the bill has been passed by both houses of Parliament, other election-related laws have not been amended to enable automatic voter registration of 18 year-olds, as Parliament has been suspended due to the current state of emergency. – April 2, 2021.
