ANNUAR Musa has apologised to PAS for the way its leaders were treated at the Umno Annual General Assembly today.

“As a division leader and a minister who works alongside PAS, if there was anything (at the AGM) said that hurt our friends in PAS, I apologise.

“Umno as a whole wants PAS’ relationship with Umno to continue and be stronger through Muafakat Nasional (MN). I want a continuous working relationship with PAS,” said the former party secretary-general in a Facebook live show.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier today reminded PAS of the pact the two parties signed in 2019.

“Let me remind PAS that Umno had agreed to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government. But little did we know that a new coalition named PN would be formed without Umno,” Zahid had said.

He said Umno and PAS had agreed to hold off joining other political coalitions.

“Umno is firm on this. It is not too late to come back to MN. We must be steadfast as (leaving the pact) will benefit neither Umno nor PAS.”

Yesterday, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and Youth chief Aysraf Wajdi Dusuki urged PAS to choose between Bersatu and Umno ahead of the 15th general election.

Annuar said if Umno does not want to be treated badly, it should not do the same to others.

“PAS came last year and they came again this year to the AGM. As guests we should have respected them, this is what the Prophet teaches us.

“We must look after them well as our guest, this is our ethics as Muslims. A lot of times these opinions are not the party’s but the individuals,” he said.

He added that Umno’s behaviour of wanting to be the “big brother” may not serve it well in the long term.

“The way we speak sometimes we want to sound like ‘big brother’, but if we continue with that mentality, others will want to bring us down and we will never achieve that,” he said. – March 28, 2021.
