13 new clusters, 11 linked to workplaces

THE Health Ministry reported 13 new Covid-19 clusters today, of which only two were community-based.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the remaining 11 clusters were linked to workplaces.

He also declared 14 clusters inactive following the end of the surveillance period.

With this, he said the current number of active clusters in the country stood at 393.

The Batu Gong cluster of 50 cases in Serian, Sarawak and Pengkalan Nangka Tumpat in Kelantan – which reported 20 cases – were the only two clusters to stem from community transmissions.

Both were traced to symptomatic index cases.

Johor reported the most number of workplace-related clusters – Taman Brick (24 cases), Jalan Gemilang Sukan (12) and Jalan Sg Chat (9).

The Taman Brick cluster was discovered at a recreational outlet whereas the Jalan Gemilang Sukan and Jalan Sg Chat clusters were detected at a factory and educational institute respectively.

Meanwhile, Selangor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak reported two workplace clusters each, while Sarawak saw one.

Apart from factories, these clusters were reported at construction sites, a service company and a training centre, among others.

Noor Hisham also announced an end to the following clusters – Jalan Cyber Sembilan, Jalan Bayam, Jalan Kelapa Mawar, Jalan DPB Tiga, Mediacity, Lorong Bersatu Damai, Bukit Angkasa, Jalan Cyber 14, Hikmah Muadzam, Simpang Tiga Muar, Jalan Mega Satu, Jalan Rumbia as well as the Jalan Setia and Persiaran Mokhtar construction sites. – March 26, 2021.
