THE Health Ministry today recorded nine new Covid-19 clusters involving five workplaces, one detention centre and three community transmissions.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the nine new clusters were detected in Selangor, Johor, Sabah, Perak, Sarawak and Kedah.

Combined, they contributed 254 cases to today’s record of 1,213 new infections.

In the past 24 hours, 66 clusters reported an increase in cases. 

The top three with the highest number of new infections are Semuja Immigration Depot (99), Jalan Wawasan Sembilan (47) and Jalan Harapan prison (32).

The three new community clusters today are:

• Sg Atap in Meradong, Sarawak, detected through a pre-work screening. To date, 19 people are Covid-19 positive.
• Kg Padang Tembak in Keningau, Sabah, detected through a screening prior to commencing inter-state travel. So far, 21 people are positive.
• Bunga Tg Bendahara in the Kota Setar and Kuala Muda districts in Kedah, detected through a screening of a symptomatic individual. The cluster currently has 10 positive cases.

The five new workplace clusters are:

• Jalan Asuhan in the Kerian district in Perak involving employees of a supermarket near Jalan Asuhan in Parit Buntar. So far, 12 people are positive.
• Persiaran Setia, a construction site in Petaling in Selangor, where 18 people are positive.
• Persiaran Sunsuria, a construction site in Sepang, Selangor, with 11 positive cases as of today.
• Jalan Wawasan Sembilan, involving targeted screening of workers at a factory in the Sri Gading Industrial Area in Batu Pahat. This cluster is also in the Kluang district, and to date, 50 people are positive.
• Memalam, in Sipitang district in Sabah, involving an education centre in Kg Memalam. To date, 14 people are positive.

The sole detention centre cluster involves the Semuja Immigration Depot in Serian, Sarawak, where a targeted screening was carried out and 99 people are positive so far.
