Majority of Sarawak Covid-19 cases asymptomatic

A MAJORITY of those tested positive for Covid-19 in Sarawak have no symptoms of infection.

Of the 168 cases detected today, only 13 cases, or 7.74% of the total number, had symptoms when they were tested, according to statistics of the state disaster management committee.

The figure was even higher yesterday with 30 cases out of the 199 detected, or 15.07% of the total, showed symptoms when they went for the test.

The numbers also showed that in today’s 168 cases, all the 42 people from existing active clusters who were ordered to be screened were asymptomatic while of the 92 who were ordered to undergo the test after coming in contact with an infected person, only seven had the symptoms.

A further 26 people, who underwent mandatory testing prior to seeking treatment at a government clinic, showed no signs of the infection.

New cases in the state continue to be in the three digits, with Sibu leading the way with 49 cases.

Bintulu is next with 37 cases, followed by Miri (19), Betong (19), Kuching (12), Kapit (10), Meradong (10), Bau (4), Julau (4), Mukah (3) and Limbang (1), pushing the state’s total to 11,878.

The committee also said the State Health Department today announced an end to the Jalan Pengiran cluster in the settlement of Matu, in the Mukah division after no new cases were detected in the last 14 days.

The cluster was declared on January 31 and the last infection was detected on February 10.

A total of 326 people in the cluster were tested and 24 of them, including the index case, were found to be positive. – March 11, 2021.
