THE Health Ministry reported eight new Covid-19 clusters today, two of which were linked to detention centres.
Director-general of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that there were also 14 clusters which have now ended, bringing the total number of active clusters to 472.
The two detention centre clusters reported today were in Sibu, Sarawak and Perlis.
A screening exercise at the Sibu detention centre led to the discovery of the Jalan Awang cluster of 42 infections.
Over in Perlis, the Persiaran Wawasan cluster of 14 cases was discovered after a pre-deportation screening exercise involving detainees.
Meanwhile, another cluster, known as Kiba was also detected in Sibu. The cluster was classified as a community transmission, and has 33 cases.
The remaining five clusters reported today were linked to workplaces.
Selangor reported two workplace clusters while Sabah, Johor and Kuala Lumpur reported one each.
The 14 clusters which were declared inactive following the end of the surveillance period were Senai Murni, Bukit Palah, Jelita, Bintang Utama, Jalan Gangsa Dua, Industri Peramu Jaya, Jalan Segama, Kampung Muhibbah, Indah Riang, Jalan Trus, Taman Koperasi, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Banting-Klang and Kluster Ampang Campuran. β March 7, 2021.
