THE Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R0, dipped to 0.89 yesterday from 0.92 the day before, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted today.
The highest R0 rates were reported in Kedah, at 1.06, followed Penang (1.03), and Kelantan (1.01).
All other states saw R0 rates below 1.0, with Labuan recording the lowest at 0.56.
R0, pronounced “r nought” indicates the number of new infections estimated to stem from a single case.
Yesterday Malaysia reported a record 4,525 recoveries, almost double the 2,464 new infections logged over a 24-hour period.
There were three recoveries more than the 4,522 reported on January 31.
Yesterday was the fourth straight day recovered patients outnumbered new patients.
Active cases dropped to 49,490, 260 of which were in intensive care and 111 of them requiring respiratory support.
Noor Hisham said all save three of the new infections were local transmissions, and of the 2,461 local transmissions, 1,705 were Malaysians. – February 15, 2021.
