4,756 healthcare workers infected with Covid, says Noor Hisham

More than 4,700 healthcare workers nationwide are infected with the coronavirus, with 43% of the cases being community infections. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, February 5, 2021.

A TOTAL of 4,756 healthcare workers nationwide have been infected with the coronavirus, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“Almost 43% of the cases were community infections. So they were not infections from the hospitals alone,” the director-general of health said on Zoom today.

Nearly two-thirds of them are women.

Noor Hisham said yesterday alone, 85 healthcare workers tested positive for Covid-19.

Noor Hisham confirmed that 93 health workers at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu have tested positive for Covid-19.

He said the ministry was tracing their close contacts who would isolated and treated.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the police were the others on the front lines who were at risk of infection. He said 1,355 police personnel were currently in quarantine.

Malaysia today reported 3,391 new  cases, taking the caseload to 234,874.

Nineteen people died of the virus today, for a death toll of 845. – February 5, 2021.
