TEN new Covid-19 clusters have been detected, one of them involving an old folks’ home in Johor Baru, the Health Ministry said.

Called the Jalan Ithnin cluster after the home’s location in Kg Ungku Mohsin in Johor Baru, there are currently 67 people infected out of 294 screened.

Elderly folk are considered to be in the high-risk category for Covid-19.

As with the current trend in clusters, most of the new clusters today – seven out of ten – involve the workplace.

Of the 10 new clusters, four, including Jalan Ithnin, were from Johor.

Selangor and Perak had two each, respectively. Kuala Lumpur and Malacca had one each.

The other clusters in Johor are:

  • Jalan Rami Tiga in Muar, involving targeted screening at a factory in the Jorak Industrial Estate, Bukit Pasir. It currently has 47 cases
  • Jalan Mega, involving a factory in Taman Perindustrian Nusa Cemerlang, Iskandar Puteri, where 25 people are positive
  • Sri Plentong, a factory in Taman Perindustrian Sri Plentong, Masai, Johor Baru, where targeted screening was held and 19 people are positive.

In Selangor, the two clusters are:

  • Jalan Kewajipan, named after the locality of a workers’ hostel in the Petaling district, where 125 are positive out of 500 screened
  • Persiaran Sabak, named after a factory in Sabak Bernam, Shah Alam, where 44 are positive out of 440 screened.

The Perak clusters are:

  • Jalan Tronoh, a community cluster named after the index case’s residential address in Bota, Central Perak. The index case was a patient with severe acute respiratory infection and reported Covid-19 positive on January 26. The cluster now has 23 positive cases
  • Bercham Raya, categorised as a high-risk cluster spread across Kinta and Kuala Kangsar with 11 positive cases. It is named after the residential address of the index case who had an “influenza-like illness” and reported Covid-19 positive on January 23.

Kuala Lumpur’s sole cluster today is the Jalan Chulan construction site in Lembah Pantai. The cluster was detected through targeted screening and 151 people are infected.

Malacca’s only cluster today is the Jalan Masjid Tanah cluster in Alor Gajah, the result of a targeted screening exercise in a factory, where 69 people are infected. – January 31, 2021.
