9 new Covid-19 clusters emerge with 234 cases

A total of nine new Covid-19 clusters has been detected today, contributing 234 infections to today’s national tally of cases. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, January 28, 2021.

NINE new Covid-19 clusters were recorded today, bringing the total number of active clusters to 372, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The nine new clusters are located in Selangor, Johor, Sarawak, Malacca, Labuan and Pahang and contributed 234 positive cases to today’s total of 4,094 infections.

Of all active clusters, 89 reported an increase in cases today. 

Those with the highest number of new cases are the Hentian cluster in Selangor with 88 cases, Pasai cluster in Sarawak with 73 cases, and the Jalan Faizal and Jalan Playar clusters in Selangor with 45 cases each.

The Jalan Pakat cluster involves the district of Kuala Selangor in Selangor. The index case for this cluster was reported positive on January 22 as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

The name of the cluster refers to the locality where the index case works part-time.

As of January 28, a total of 74 individuals have been screened, of which 27 cases were positive.

The Jalan Faizal workplace cluster involves the Pontian district in Johor. 

The index case for this cluster was reported positive on January 21 as a result of screening before returning to the country of origin. 

This cluster involves factory workers in Jalan Faizal, Pekan Nanas, Pontian. 

As of January 28 a total of 400 individuals have been screened, of which 68 cases were positive.

The Jalan Satria workplace cluster involves the Johor Bahru district in Johor. 

Cases for this cluster were reported positive on January 28 as a result of targeted screening of a factory at Jalan Satria 2 at the JB Perdana Industrial Park.

As of January 28, 2021, a total of 83 individuals have been screened, of which 38 cases were positive.

The Jalan Dewan Satu workplace cluster involves the Johor Baru district in Johor. 

Cases for this cluster were reported positive on January 28, as a result of a targeted screening of a factory at Jalan Dewani 1, Off Jalan Tampoi, Temenggong Industrial Estate, Johor Baru.

As of January 28, a total of 166 individuals have been screened, of which 16 cases were positive.

The Indah Riang community cluster involves the districts of Kuching, Simunjan, Samarahan, and Saratok in Sarawak.

The index case for this cluster was reported positive on January 23 as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

This cluster involves a social event attended by index cases. 

The name of the cluster refers to the residential locality of the index case which is in Taman Indah, Bandar Baru Samariang, Kuching. 

As of January 28, a total of 150 individuals have been screened, of which 20 cases are positive.

The Jalan Kejora high-risk group cluster involves the districts of Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin in Melaka as well as the district of Bandar Baharu in Kedah. 

The index cases for this cluster were reported positive January 15 as a result of symptomatic individual screening.

The name of the cluster refers to the residential locality of the index case located at Jalan Kejora 3, Taman Tanjung Minyak, Melaka Tengah. 

As of January 28, a total of 248 individuals have been screened, of which 36 cases are positive.

The Peramu Jaya Industri workplace cluster involves the Pekan district in Pahang. 

The index case for this cluster was reported positive on January 23 as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

This cluster involves factory workers located in Peramu Jaya Industrial Estate, Jalan Pekan-Kuantan, Pekan.

As of January 28, a total of 95 individuals have been screened, of which 11 cases are positive.

The Kg Kemansur community cluster involves Bentong district in Pahang. 

The index case for this cluster was reported positive on January 16 as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

The name of the cluster refers to the residential locality of the index case in Kg Kemansur, Bentong.

As of January 28, a total of 43 individuals have been screened, of which 11 cases are positive.

The Taman Mahkota Impian workplace cluster involves the Federal Territory of Labuan. 

The index cases for this cluster were reported positive January 28 as a result of symptomatic individual screening.

This cluster involves staff of the orphanage and students located at Taman Mahkota Impian, Sg Buton. 

As of January 28, a total of 83 individuals have been screened, of which seven cases were positive. – January 28, 2021.
