PUTRAJAYA has initiated the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) for 14 days at the immigration detention quarters at Pekan Nenas in Pontian, Johor.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made after a risk assessment by the Health Ministry, which has detected 177 Covid-19 infections there.

The EMCO will start from tomorrow until February 5.

“As of yesterday, the ministry has conducted 360 tests and out of that, a total of 177 positive cases were recorded,” he said in a statement.

The EMCO will control detainees being brought into the depot and prevent the spread of infection to staff, families and the community, Ismail Sabri added.

The MCO is currently in place nationwide except Sarawak, and has been extended in seven states until February 4.

The affected states are Penang, Selangor, Johor, Sabah, Malacca, Kelantan and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

The MCO in these states was to end on January 26.

The MCO, the country’s second since March last year, began on January 13 following a continuous hike in Covid-19 cases. – January 22, 2021.
