Overnight floods force 53 out of homes in Sarawak

FLOODWATERS resulting from continuous heavy rain sent 53 people in Sarawak out of their homes into relief centres in the wee hours of today.
 
The state disaster management committee said 21 of them, from six households in Kg Betong Kenawit if Serian, some 66km from Kuching sought shelter in the village’s community hall.

Fire and Rescue and Civil Defence personnel were deployed to evacuate the other 32 people in Taman Desa Wira on the city outskirts.

This group of 13 households were moved to the community hall, he said.

The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call for flood assistance from Taman Desa Wira residents at 11pm yesterday, – January 13, 2021.
