Thirteen new Covid-19 clusters today, says health DG

THE Health Ministry today reported 13 new Covid-19 clusters in a single day, the highest since the onset of the pandemic.

With this the number of active clusters of infection in the country now stood at 252.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 10 of the clusters reported today were linked to workplaces.

Most of these workplace clusters were discovered following targeted screening exercises at the respective premises.

The Persiaran Teknologi (25 cases), Firma (45 cases), Bersepadu (21 cases) and Padu (17 cases) workplace clusters were discovered in Johor.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Seputeh cluster in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur was detected following a targeted screening exercise at a restaurant. The cluster has thus far reported 18 cases.

Apart from the Jalan Seputeh cluster, Kuala Lumpur also reported two other workplace clusters, namely Ikan Emas in Cheras and Kayuh in Titiwangsa, Kepong, as well as Lembah Pantai areas.

The Ikan Emas cluster reported 35 cases while Kayuh saw 11 infections.

Over in Selangor, health authorities discovered two workplace clusters known as Dataran Utas and Casa Permai which reported 66 and 109 cases respectively.

The Kampung Pintas cluster in Kalabakan and Tawau, Sabah, which is the tenth workplace cluster reported today, registered 72 cases.

Other clusters reported today were the Anak Air in Malacca as well as the Tasik Utama in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor. The two clusters were traced to a symptomatic index patient.

The Medan Jasa cluster which reported 64 cases stemmed from an index patient who suffered from Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI).

Cases from this cluster had spread across state lines to Kuala Kangsar in Perak and Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.

Noor Hisham also declared that three clusters were now inactive following the end of the 28-day surveillance period.

The three clusters were Kobena, Mengketil, and UD SS2. – January 6, 2021.
