MALAYSIA has set a new record high of daily Covid-19 cases after reporting 2,593 infections in the past 24 hours.
This comes just six days after the current record was set on December 31.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press conference today that the fresh cases have brought the caseload to 125,438 while active cases stood at 24,347.
He said Selangor once again led the tally with 965 cases, followed by Johor and Sabah with 571 and 405 infections respectively.
He said only four of today’s cases were imported.
Noor Hisham said prisons and detention centers clusters, on the other hand, contributed 81 cases
On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 1,129 people were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
With this, he said, the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stands at 100,578.
He said four deaths were reported today, raising the national death toll to 513.
Meanwhile, he said 141 patients are currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit, of whom 67 require respiratory support. – January 6, 2021.
