Health authorities report 5 new Covid-19 clusters

The Ministry of Health reports of five new Covid-19 clusters today. The cumulative total of active clusters in the country is now 231. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 4, 2021.

THE Ministry of Health today reported five new Covid-19 clusters, of which two were linked to places of work.

Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new clusters brought the cumulative total of active clusters in the country to 231.

The Jalan Duyong cluster in Klang that was discovered through a targeted screening exercise at a factory reported 110 cases.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Nakhoda cluster in Kuala Lumpur, which was also linked to a factory, reported 14 cases.

Cases from this cluster were detected in the Titiwangsa and Cheras districts.

The remaining three clusters reported today were traced to symptomatic index patients.

The Telok Mas detention centre cluster in Malacca reported 13 cases while the  Pasar Jalan Sentosa cluster in Kuala Langat, Selangor saw 61 cases.

The Ehsan Ibol cluster, on the other hand, registered 22 cases.

Cases from this cluster were detected in Hulu Perak, Larut, Matang, and Selama districts in Perak, as well as in Gombak, Selangor. 

Noor Hisham also added that six clusters were now inactive following the end of 28 days of surveillance. 

The six clusters were Sembilan, Saguking, Monsoon, Buntar, Sky Coklat and Gading. – January 4, 2021.
