Noor Hisham reports more recoveries than new Covid-19 cases today

MALAYSIA started the new year with more people discharged from hospital than fresh Covid-19 cases, according to director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said 2,230 people had been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, while 2,068 new cases had been reported in the past 24 hours, two of which were imported.

With this, 91,171 people have now recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the latest infections have brought the caseload to 115,078, with 23,433 active cases.

Selangor once again led the tally with 776 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Sabah with 457 and 254 cases respectively.

Prison and detention clusters contributed to 18 cases.

Health authorities also discovered three clusters of infection today.

Three deaths were reported today raising the national death toll to 474.

Meanwhile, 126 patients are currently in intensive care, of whom 54 require respiratory support. – January 1, 2021.
