A HEALTH Ministry survey has found that there is high compliance with standard operating procedure (SOP) among members of the public.

The survey, which was conducted between November 25 and November 30, involved 36,841 respondents.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a majority of the respondents practiced high self-regulation, which includes wearing a face mask (93.3%), physical distancing (89.6%) and washing their hands with soap and water or using a hand sanitiser (89.7%).

He said more than 90% of the respondents also reminded their family members to adhere to SOP.

Similarly, about 80% said they would call out friends who were not complying with the SOP.

Only half of the respondents were comfortable with reminding people who were not their family member or friends to do so.

“The findings were very positive and impressive. This shows that Malaysians practise high self-regulation,” he said.

The objective of the survey was to determine the level of self-regulation in the community.

Noor Hisham said change begins with oneself and that that is the first step toward success.

He urged Malaysians to come together to break the chain of infection.

Two days ago, he said the ministry is concerned over the spread of the coronavirus within communities in Selangor as the state continues to top the daily Covid-19 tally.

“We are worried the infection has spread to the community,” he said at the ministry’s weekly press briefing on Wednesday.

Noor Hisham said the ministry had projected for cases to rise given the high population density in the state and the movement of residents. – December 25, 2020.
