HEALTH authorities reported five new Covid-19 clusters today, bringing the number of active clusters in the country to 208.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first cluster was linked to a construction site in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.

The Jalan Panah cluster was detected on December 7 through a targeted screening exercise conducted at the construction site.

Of the 1,000 screened, 21 tested positive for the coronavirus, he said.

Noor Hisham said a second cluster known as Menara Wang was also detected in Kuala Lumpur. The cluster saw cases spread across Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Cheras.

Cases linked to this cluster were also reported across state lines in the Petaling, Klang, Sepang and Hulu Langat districts in Selangor.

The cluster of 23 cases was traced to a symptomatic index patient.

Apart from that, the screening of detainees led to the discovery of two more clusters – one in Kedah and the other in Perak.

The Kolam Air cluster, discovered in Kota Setar and Kubang Pasu in Kedah, reported 14 cases while Hala Mutiara in Kinta, Perak saw seven cases.

Meanwhile, the Saga Tengah cluster, which went on to infect 16 people, was reported in Tenom and Keningau, Sabah.
