Selangor tops state Covid-19 tally for 8th straight day

SELANGOR continued to record the highest number of Covid-19 cases for the eighth day in a row after logging 535 cases in the past 24 hours.

Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press conference today that Malaysia reported 1,348 cases in total today.

He said the fresh cases brought the caseload to 98,737 while active cases stood at 18,279.

Noor Hisham said only 16 of the new cases reported today were imported.

He said Kuala Lumpur saw the second-highest number of cases at 226, followed by Sabah with 189 cases.

Prison and detention centre clusters on the other hand, contributed 193 cases, he said.

Noor Hisham added that five new clusters of infection had been discovered.

On another note, he said 710 people were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the coronavirus in the past  24 hours.

With this, he said the total number of recoveries now stands at 80,014.

Five deaths were also reported in today, two of which were in Selangor.

Dr Noor Hisham said this has brought the national death toll to 444.

Meanwhile, 102 patients are currently warded in the intensive care unit (ICU), of whom 44 require respiratory support. – December 23, 2020.
