SIX new Covid-19 clusters were recorded in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of active clusters in the country to 190, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The six new clusters were in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Negri Sembilan and Penang. Combined, they contributed 503 to the 1,810 new infections today.
Of all active clusters, 48 reported an increase in cases today.
The clusters with the highest number of new cases were Sg Putus in Selangor (369), Rumah Merah (150) and D’Bajaru (133) in Sabah.
The Sg Putus cluster is one of six new clusters identified today, and involves a factory in the Klang district in Selangor.
In this cluster, 2,001 individuals have been screened, with 427 positive.
The other new cluster in Selangor is Erima in Gombak, where the index case was detected through symptomatic screening. Screening of 83 of the individual’s co-workers and close contacts to date found 28 other positive cases.
Of the other new clusters, Jalan Berangan construction site in Kuala Lumpur has six people who are positive with the virus, out of 1,246 individuals who were screened.
The index case was detected through targeted workplace screenings on construction sites.
The Jalan College cluster meanwhile, covers Seremban in Negri Sembilan and Petaling in Selangor. Thirty-five individuals have been screened to date, and 11 are positive.
The Langkasuka cluster in Johor is spread across Kulai and Johor Baru, and is a workplace cluster where 113 individuals have been screened, and 14 found positive.
Penang’s newest cluster, meanwhile, is the Sg Keluang cluster that is spread across the state’s northeast and southwest districts, as well as North and South Seberang Perai.
The cluster stemmed from an individual who tested positive through a pre-departure screening ahead of the person’s return to their country.
A total of 99 individuals have been screened to date, with 16 positive.
Noor Hisham also said 217 clusters had ended. These included Taman Laut in Selangor, BMU in Malacca and Ikhtisas in Selangor, Kelantan dan Negri Sembilan. – December 11, 2020.
