New Covid-19 cases hit record 2,234

MALAYSIA today reported the highest number of new Covid-19 cases in a day at 2,234 with Selangor, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur accounting for the bulk of infections.

The previous high was 2,188 recorded on November 24.

Today’s figures raise the total number of positive cases in the country to 78,499.

Three deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours.

The figures were released by the Health Ministry on its Twitter account and by the National Security Council.

As for recoveries, 1,112 individuals were discharged, bringing the total recoveries to 66,236.

Selangor recorded 1,428 new cases today, with 1,239 cases from active clusters, including 39 from the Tapak Bina Jalan Bukit cluster.

He said 92 cases were from close contact with Covid-19 patients and another 97 from screenings.

In Sabah, Noor Hisham said that there are 274 new cases, where 100 cases are from the existing clusters. 

“113 cases were close contact with positive cases, while 61 cases were from other screenings.”

Meanwhile, he said the 136 new cases in Kuala Lumpur are from existing clusters and 25 cases are from the new Tapak Bina Condong and Tapak Bina Jalan Stadium clusters.
