THE quarantine and treatment centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang has been reactivated today, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the quarantine centre was put into use again due to the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases and the mass screening of foreign workers under a  Socso programme.

“The centre will accommodate category 1 patients (asymptomatic) and category 2 patients (mild symptoms).

“The centre will only be used to  accommodate foreigners,” he said during a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said the activation of the centre will involve the transfer of foreign patients from Sg Buloh hospital to MAEPS.

“Compared to only 604 beds previously, there are now a total of 10,000 beds.”

He said the beds are divided into three phases.

“Phase one has 3,000 beds, Phase 2 has 3,300 beds and Phase 3 has 3,700 beds.”

He also said that security in the area will be increased with the large number of foreigners.

“The security aspect will be further enhanced by the police and army.” – December 9, 2020.
