Eight new Covid-19 clusters found, says Noor Hisham

HEALTH authorities have discovered eight new Covid-19 clusters, two of which were linked to construction sites.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of active clusters in the country now stands at 188.

The new Muda and Galeri construction site clusters, which reported 11 and 16 cases respectively, were discovered in Kuala Lumpur.

They were discovered after screening exercises that were conducted at these sites.

Authorities also discovered a third cluster, known as Bukit Dalam in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur which went on to infect 13 people.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Genting cluster of 14 cases was discovered in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur and Bentong, Pahang. The cluster’s index case was detected in a screening exercise at the workplace.

Ten positive cases were discovered in the Cempaka cluster, which originated from a patient  with severe acute respiratory infection. Cases linked to this cluster were discovered in Kulai and Kluang in Johor.

Other clusters reported today are the Huma cluster in Pasir Puteh and Kota Baru, Kelantan and the Atabara cluster in Pekan and Kuantan, Pahang, which reported 20 and five cases respectively.

Noor Hisham also announced the end of four clusters – Bandaran, Kolong, Ramai-Ramai and Sentral.

As for active clusters, 49 reported new infections. Of this, the highest number of cases came from the Bina Puteh Lama construction cluster which registered 159 cases followed by Teratai (62) and Damanlela (58). – December 4, 2020.
