A TOTAL of 9,167 Covid-19 cases were traced through the MySejahtera application, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said they account for between 18.2% and 44.3% of the daily cases.
Noor Hisham said as of November 18, there are about 23.95 million users and 1.05 million premises registered on the application.
The app has recorded 1.7 billion check-ins so far, with a daily average of 15 million.
Data from the app is channelled to the district health office for further action.
“The data will be analysed together with the findings on the ground, which leads to contact tracing. The contact tracing data is extracted from the MySejahtera check-in, which stores the users’ movement records taken from the scanning of QR codes,” he said in a statement.
Noor Hisham said the Utama cluster linked to the One Utama shopping mall was a prime example of cases discovered through check-ins on the app.
Of the 17,260 mall-goers traced through the app, 1,343 were identified for further supervision while another 457 people were classified as close contacts.
A total of 221 cases linked to the cluster were traced through the app.
Noor Hisham added the data extracted from the app is archived after 30 days and wiped out after 90 days.
The data is used under the provisions of Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act and Medical Act.
The data extracted from the app are governed by the Personal Data Protection Act. – November 19, 2020.
