8 new Covid-19 clusters detected today

HEALTH authorities reported eight new Covid-19 clusters today, while declaring the end of another three.

Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this has brought the number of active clusters in the country to 167.

Three of the eight new clusters were detected in Sabah. These are the Tomher, Garden and Sabaru clusters.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham declared that the Kencana, Bah Sintok and Anggerik clusters were now inactive after not reporting new cases within the 28 days of surveillance.

The Sabaru cluster in Lahad Datu and Garden cluster in Tawau – which reported 88 and 11 cases respectively – originated from an index patient who was symptomatic.

The Tomher cluster, on the other hand, was detected in Ranau after the screening of a high-risk group of construction workers.

There were 20 positive cases in this cluster.

Meanwhile, health authorities also discovered the Putra-18 cluster ini Putrajaya, Petaling and Sepang, as well as the Murni cluster in Cheras and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.

Both reported seven cases each and originated from index patients who tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing symptoms.

Apart from that, the ministry also detected the Demak cluster in Penang (5), Parit Kassan in Tangkak, Johor (11) and Besi Demak in Kuching (5). 

All three clusters were also traced to an index case who tested positive for the coronavirus after experiencing symptoms. – November 18, 2020.
