HEALTH authorities reported five new Covid-19 clusters today, while declaring the end of another five.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of active clusters in the country remained unchanged at 162.

He said two of the five new clusters were detected in Sabah.

Noor Hisham said The Avenue cluster was discovered in the district of Penampang. The index case was traced to a supervisor of a construction site who was confirmed positive on November 8 after experiencing symptoms.

He said screening of close contacts led to the discovery of 109 other cases. All positive cases are currently being treated at the low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

He said in the second Sabah cluster, Kejora, nine cases were detected in Kota Kinabalu after the index case experienced symptoms and tested positive.

Noor Hisham said all positive cases were admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Kasah cluster in Kepong, on the other hand, saw 19 cases.

“The cases in this cluster tested positive for Covid-19 on November 17, due to the screening of a high-risk group, which in this case involved employees of a security company,” he said.

All were non-citizens and have been admitted to the Sg Buloh Hospital.

In Penang, 11 cases were reported in the Summer cluster, which stemmed from an asymptomatic individual.

Over in Kelantan, the Mengketil cluster infected 24 individuals in Kota Baru, Machang dan Tanah Merah. Positive cases were also detected across state lines in Besut, Terengganu.

The index case had suffered from severe acute respiratory infection and was confirmed positive on November 13.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham declared the Bangau-Bangau, Tasik, Olive, Buang Sayang and Kau Sing clusters inactive after no new cases were reported for 28 days. – November 17, 2020.
