THE Federal Territories Ministry has submitted the paperwork for the Kg Baru Development Act to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action before tabling it in the Dewan Rakyat.

Its minister, Annuar Musa, said the Act will replace rules adopted by the Malay Agricultural Settlement Administration (MAS) Board for Kg Baru’s land administration, town planning and management.

“The new Act will also take into consideration the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020-2040, and we will ensure that Kg Baru will be developed in tandem with its surrounding areas.

“We are also in the midst of preparing a development package for 44 parcels of land in Kg Baru, some of which will be for immediate development involving more than 8ha of land,” he said after presenting donations to 76 families who were victims of flash floods in Kuala Lumpur today.

On June 6, the Kg Baru Development Corp (PKB) had said the MAS board no longer has a role in overseeing land administration management and town planning matters in Kg Baru.

The PKB said Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had consented to the move on December 2, last year after taking into account legal views from the AGC on the status of the board.

Meanwhile, on the recent business-friendly initiative, Annuar said that his remarks about making the Federal Territory a “free-trade territory” does not mean no rules and regulations will apply.

“Hawkers, businesses and so forth are subjected to various regulations. Kuala Lumpur City Hall also has guidelines that must be followed before a business licence can be issued to traders,” he said.

Annuar had announced that City Hall has given permission to city folk to operate stalls or small businesses in any suitable area around the city, starting from tomorrow.

However, the traders must apply for a temporary six-month business licence – at no charge. Applications for the licence can be made online via City Hall’s official portal. – Bernama, November 14, 2020.
