MALAYSIA today reported 834 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections past the 33,000 mark.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah continued to contribute to the bulk of the infections with 503 cases, followed by the Klang Valley with 157 cases.
All but three of today’s reported cases were local infections, he said.
Meanwhile, the two fatalities were both senior citizens, taking the cumulative toll to 251.
Noor Hisham said that active screening in Labuan had resulted in a six-fold increase in new cases, from 18 yesterday to 105 today.
There were 64 new cases from prison and detention centre clusters, while health authorities have also discovered five new clusters.
Nevertheless, Noor Hisham said the number of active cases has declined to 9,968 with the national toll of infections now at 33,339.
Among other states that reported new cases were Penang (21), Johor (8), Negri Sembilan (16), Putrajaya (6), Kedah (3), Perak (3), Sarawak (14), Kelantan (2) and Pahang (1).
Meanwhile, 900 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours after recovering from the virus.
With this, total recoveries now stand at 23,120.
Ninety-one patients are currently warded in intensive care units, with 32 requiring respiratory assistance. – November 2, 2020.
