Azmin won't expel PAS reps from exco

THERE will be no reshuffling of Selangor’s executive councillor (Exco) lineup despite rumours of a possible coup in the state recently.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the mandate given by the Selangor people was for one term and it was clear that voters wanted change and reforms in Selangor.

“Did they say in the ballot paper that I gave you the mandate for three months? Certainly not. Don’t undermine the wisdom of the voters,” said Azmin.

The PKR deputy president was responding to suggestions by Amanah Youth that he reshuffle the Selangor executive council by expelling PAS Excos.

All three PAS wings – Ulama, Youth and Central – had told the party leadership to cut ties with PKR during their annual congress in Alor Setar recently.

“So I have a duty to carry that mandate (and) it’s not about my choice, I’m not in the position to choose but they made the choice in the last election and we have to respect the democratic process,” he told reporters after attending a state government function in Shah Alam today.

He said he respected suggestions by all quarters but it was the people who elected representatives from PKR, DAP and PAS to form the current government.

“That mandate is for one term, then for next term we have to give back the mandate to the rakyat. Let them decide, they will evaluate for the last five years what have we have done for Selangor.

“If we have done a good job, fair to all and deliver to the people, I’m quite certain that they will support us to continue to govern the state. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

On Ampang PKR Youth chief Adam Rosly’s decision to take a leave of absence pending his trial for making allegedly false statements and forgery, Azmin said it was the “right thing to do”.

“It is the right thing to do to keep the party out of it and we have to respect the legal process,” he said, adding that Adam had the right to defend himself.

Adam was charged on April 21 at the KL Sessions Court with giving false statements and forged documents to MACC officers during investigations into his personal wealth in February.

Adam’s wealth came under scrutiny after Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos last year raised the question of how he was able to own a multi million ringgit bungalow in Ampang at such a young age. – May 9, 2017.
