Centenarian dies from coronavirus as Selangor’s caseload grows

A 100-YEAR-OLD woman died of Covid-19 today to go on record as being the oldest person to be killed by the coronavirus in Malaysia,

The deceased, who is not a Malaysian citizen, died in the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sabah.

The state reported two more deaths – one of a 68-year-old man and the other a 54-year-old woman. Both had a history of chronic illnesses.

The three fatalities take the national virus death toll to 170;

Malaysia today reported the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries in a single day since the onset of the pandemic, with 409 people discharged from the hospital in 24 hours.

The recoveries were mainly in virus hotspots Kedah and Sabah, which respectively saw 226 and 111 discharged from care today.

Total recoveries from the coronavirus now stand at 12,014.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a virtual presser today reported 589 new infections in the past 24 hours, all save three were cases of local transmission.

Foreigners accounted for 133 of the new cases.

Sabah continued to account for the bulk of the new cases, with 304 infections.

Selangor saw a sudden surge in cases, with 150 new infections.

Active cases number 5,945.

A hundred and three patients are in intensive care, 31 of whom are on respiratory support. – October 15, 2020.
