THE Health Ministry today reported six new Covid-19 clusters, four of which were in Sabah.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Semarak and Sabindo clusters, which reported 14 cases each, were detected in Tawau, Sabah.
The index cases of both clusters tested positive for Covid-19 on October 3 after experiencing symptoms.
The positive cases of the Semarak cluster are currently being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital while the patients linked to the Sabindo cluster are admitted to the Tawau Hospital.
Meanwhile, another cluster of 19 infections, known as the Bestari cluster, was discovered in Sandakan.
The index case of this cluster was also confirmed positive for Covid-19 after experiencing symptoms.
All 19 cases are currently being treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
The fourth cluster in the state was discovered in Beaufort and has 14 cases.
The index patient tested positive on October 10 during admission screening at the Sipitang Hospital. The patient is now being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Apart from Sabah, the Health Ministry also discovered one cluster in Selangor and another in Penang.
The Bah Kenangan cluster, which went on to infect 18 people was discovered in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
Ths index patient of the cluster recently travelled to Sabah and was confirmed positive on October 2.
A cluster was discovered at the Jawi prison in Penang as well, after three detainees were tested positive during a screening after being transferred from the Timur Laut Remand Prison.
All three were asymptomatic and have been admitted to the low-risk treatment centre.
As of noon today, 226 individuals have been screened for this cluster, whereby 61 tested negative.
A total of 162 individuals are still waiting for their results. β October 13, 2020.
