THE Ministry of Health has identified two new Covid-19 clusters: one in Perak and the other in Sabah.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Batu cluster has been identified in Taiping, Perak.
“This cluster was identified as a result of screening among staff and family members at a detention centre.
“The results of this screening found that there were seven positive cases on October 5 and all patients were admitted to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Perak,” he said during a Facebook livestream from his home.
As for the Ramai Ramai cluster in Sandakan, Sabah, he said the index case is a bus driver who had symptoms of sore throat and fever starting September 27.
“He was detected positive on October 3 and admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment.
“After close contact screening, 19 more positive were identified and all were similarly admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment.”
Dr Noor Hisham said for the Batu cluster, 860 individuals have been screened and 182 people are negative, while 671 are still awaiting results.
“For the Ramai Ramai cluster, 166 individuals have been screened and 146 are awaiting results.”
He said that apart from the two new clusters, there are seven other active clusters with positive cases today.
The Tembok cluster has 394 new cases, Bangau-Bangau cluster (30), Jalan Meru (15) Bah Sintok (3), Benteng PK ( 2) Selasih (1) and Embun (1). – October 6, 2020.
