MALAYSIA can expect an increase in Covid-19 cases in the coming week as the Health Ministry conducts more screenings in Sabah and Kedah.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they hope to flatten the curve in Sabah in a week or two.

“There will be an increase in cases as we do more screenings at the red zones in Sabah.

“We will see an increase this week and we will trace the positive cases and isolate them. Then we will do acute case detection,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham said they managed to control the previous clusters in Kedah.

“We are monitoring Kedah. The cause is from the prison.

“We managed to screen the wardens and officers, so it is under control.”

Noor Hisham said they are well equipped and ready to treat patients, if there is a spike in cases.

“We can see the spike is now focused in Kedah and Sabah.

“We have already deployed our personnel who are medical experts to the hospitals and on the ground there.”

He said they have the capacity to handle and they also have enough centres to place patients who have symptoms.

“We screened 14,747 people that came in through the airports from Sabah and 176 tested positive.

“It still under under control. We hope for their cooperation to carry out our duties,” he added. – October 3, 2020.
