THE national death toll from Covid-19 rose to 134 today with one new death reported in Sabah, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
A total of 150 new Covid-19 infections were also reported in the past 24 hours, of which 146 were locally transmitted while four were imported, he added.
Noor Hisham said Sabah accounted for the bulk of cases at 124.
Health authorities have also detected two new clusters in the state.
The new daily cases bring the national caseload to 10,919.
Citizens accounted for 124 of the local transmissions while the remaining 22 were foreigners.
Active cases jumped to 950 from 851 yesterday.
In the past 24 hours, 50 people were discharged from hospital after recovering from the coronavirus.
With this, the total number of recoveries now stands at 9,835.
Six patients are currently warded at the intensive care unit, with four needing respiratory support.
Active clusters, such as the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster, Bangau-Bangau and Bakau, continue to fuel infections in the state by recording 58, 12 and 13 cases today, respectively.
The Pulau cluster also saw 10 new cases.
As for the two new clusters in Sabah, the Kg Sakong cluster contributed eight cases while Buang Sayang reported three cases.
One individual tested positive for the novel coronavirus before departing to Sarawak from Sabah.
Eight out of the 10 cases reported in Selangor were among those who had recently travelled to Sabah.
Pahang (3), Kuala Lumpur (1), Johor (1) and Malacca (1) also reported positive cases among those who had travelled to Sabah.
Meanwhile, the ministry has also detected a new cluster of two infections in Kuala Lumpur, known as Setapak.
Sarawak reported two cases after two Immigration Quarantine Security (IQS) personnel tested positive for Covid-19. – September 27, 2020.
