THE Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is expected to complete corrections next year on all 33 audit issues that was raised by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) last year, said Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong.

Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, said the Transport Ministry task force has examined all 33 issues raised by the FAA.

He added the commission has to take proactive measures in three critical areas to reinstate CAAM to category one.

“This includes the qualification and training of technical personnel. Responsibility for licensing and certification as well as approvals and supervisory responsibilities,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Wee was responding to Anthony Loke (Seremban-Pakatan Harapan) who asked about CAAM’s preparations to category one from its current category two.

On November 11, the FAA announced that it had downgraded the CAAM air safety rating for failing to meet international safety standards.

The Malaysian Insight has reported that the CAAM had failed to meet the safety standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and as such, had received a category two rating after a reassessment of the Malaysian civil aviation authority.

He said the task force has drafted 28 corrective measures for CAAM to implement.

He said these would assist CAAM in the process of transformation in terms of organisational structure, human resources, finance, digitalisation, and automation.

“Putrajaya is also in the midst of getting international experts on advisory services and technical support for external expertise from FAA through a memorandum with CAAM.

“FAA technical support will help CAAM rectify the 33 audist. Once all the corrections are done CAAM will liase with FAA to get reinstated in category one.”
