THE Health Ministry has not detected any cases of children being Covid-19 super spreaders, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

“There have been such reports, but we have not detected any children being active spreaders in the relevant clusters. There is a certain percentage of cases involving children, but they were not super spreaders,” he told a press conference today.

He was asked about a study by Massachusetts General Hospital, which found that infected children can carry high levels of the virus even when they have few or no symptoms.

The Tawar cluster today recorded five new infections, all of which involved primary school pupils.

Noor Hisham said the school involved has been closed.

The latest infections in the Tawar cluster are of the third generation, and there is a possibility that the child might have been infected by a parent, in turn infecting schoolmates, he added. – August 25, 2020.
