7 new Covid-19 cases, 6 recoveries

MALAYSIA today reported seven new Covid-19 infections, of which five are local transmissions in Sarawak, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The fresh cases take the national toll of infections to 9,274.

Three of the locally transmitted cases involve foreigners who were asymptomatic and which were detected through a workplace screening. They have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital.

The third foreigner was detected during a pre-departure screening before the individual was to fly home.

As for local transmissions involving citizens, one was discovered during a workplace screening while the other was discovered during a pre-childbirth screening.

Both cases were asymptomatic and have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital.

The remaining two of today’s seven cases were imported, one each from the Philippines and the US.

Meanwhile, six patients have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus to 8,965.

Active cases stand at 184. Of this, eight patients are warded in intensive care, with five requiring respiratory support.

No fatalities were reported, keeping the death toll at 125. – August 24, 2020.
