PUTRAJAYA is addressing delayed quarantine procedures experienced by those returning from abroad, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said there have been teething problems when sending returnees to quarantine centres.

“This is due to the large number of Malaysians returning to the country at the same time,” Ismail said in a press conference in Putrajaya today.

“This has caused problems when processing them before they are sent to quarantine centres.”

Ismail Sabri said the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will put up an online system for returning Malaysians to register themselves before they are sent to quarantine centres.

“Malaysians will have to go online and register their details.

“This will also include flight details and arrival times.

“Nadma is in the process of setting up the link,” Ismail said.

Ismail said the returnees can also choose through the online system if they want to be placed in hotels or government quarantine centres.

Between July 24 and August 17, 12,646 people have returned home from abroad.

The returnees were housed at 63 hotels and five Public Training Institutes (ILA) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor , Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah and Labuan.

Of that number, 43 were taken to hospital for treatment.

Ismail Sabri said health officers together and police had conducted 481 spot-checks yesterday to ensure that those who in home quarantine comply with the rules.

“From the surprise inspection, four individuals were charged for breaking the law.” – August 18, 2020.
