Another cluster in Kedah as 26 new Covid-19 cases recorded

MALAYSIA today recorded 26 new Covid-19 cases, with another cluster surfacing in Yan, Kedah.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of positive cases to 9,175.

He said there were three recoveries, marking 8,831 in total, while the number of active cases stands at 219.

“Out of the 26 new cases reported, three cases are imported, involving two Malaysians and one foreigner. The three imported cases are from Austria, the United States and Vietnam,” he said in a statement today. 

As for local transmissions, Noor Hisham said the 23 cases involves 20 Malaysians and three foreigners.

On the 20 local transmissions involving Malaysians, Noor Hisham said these comprised mainly those in the Kedah clusters. 

“Three cases are from the (new) Sala cluster in Yan and one in the Muda cluster. 

“In Kuala Lumpur, one case was detected during a workplace screening and the other three are close contacts of a positive case. 

“The other two cases in Johor and Perlis were detected in pre-operation screenings.”

On the three foreigners, he said two positive cases were illegal migrants detected in Negri Sembilan while the other case was detected in Kuala Lumpur. 

Six positive cases are being treated in intensive care, with one case requiring respiratory assistance.
 
No deaths were reported from the virus today, keeping the total number of fatalities to the coronavirus at 125 cases. – August 15, 2020.
