THE new maximum RM1 retail price for three-ply face masks will take effect on Saturday, August 15, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi today.
According to Alexander, the decision was made following a discussion with stakeholders.
Currently, the retail price is set at RM1.50 apiece.
“Despite the current retail price pegged at RM1.50, some businesses are selling it at RM1.20. It shows there is more than sufficient supply.
“I hope this new price will help those in the lower income bracket or those classified as B40,” he told a media conference in Parliament today.
Alexander told Parliament earlier this week that the price will fall to RM1 but did not set a date for its introduction. – August 13, 2020.
