BERSATU will scrap the chairman’s post, said supreme council member Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof today.
He said the party will amend its constitution towards this end, but did not mention when this will be done.
The announcement comes amid the leadership tussle between former chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Muhyiddin Yassin.
“We have seen the problem. There must be only one captain on the ship. We will abolish the post,” Redzuan told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.
Dr Mahathir on Friday announced the formation of an independent party that will champion Bersatu’s objectives when it was established in 2016.
The new outfit’s name and logo have yet to be determined.
The former prime minister, who quit in February, said the party will focus on fighting corruption. – August 10, 2020.
