13 new Covid-19 cases, 9 recoveries

MALAYSIA reported 13 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, of which four were locally transmitted, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today.

The fresh cases bring the national toll of infection to 9,083. 

Noor Hisham said three cases were detected in Penang, whereby two were linked to the Sivagangga cluster that originated in Napoh, Kedah.

The third case in Penang was linked to the new Kurau cluster. 

The fourth locally transmitted case was detected in Putrajaya and is part of the new Meranti cluster of infections.

Meanwhile, the remaining nine infections were imported, of which five cases involved locals.

Nine patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours. 

This brings the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus to 8,784. 

Active cases, on the other hand, stood at 174. 

No fatalities were reported, keeping the death toll at 125.

Meanwhile, one patient is currently warded in the intensive care unit. – August 9, 2020.
