MALAYSIA is ready to contribute to international efforts to develop a Covid-19 vaccine, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The government is always monitoring developments in the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I’ve been made to understand that there are a few countries working on developing a vaccine,” he said at the launch of the New Normal Culture campaign in Pagoh today.

Such efforts will take time to yield results, and may go on till early next year, he said.

“On that note, Malaysia is ready to help in international efforts to develop a vaccine through an inter-ministry team established in April.”

This will provide opportunities to forge a strategic cooperation with other nations in research and development on treatments for the coronavirus, he said.

According to reports citing World Health Organisation (WHO) records, there are 165 Covid-19 vaccine candidates from across the world that have begun trials.

Malaysia is part of WHO’s “solidarity trial” to test several medicines to treat the disease. – August 8, 2020.
